| Plaza 425 · · The Flood of 2008 | |
Thursday, June 12, 2008At about 4:15 am we woke up to find that the water was up to the building. A check of the lobby found that there was about 1-2 inches of water on the floor of the lobby. It was coming in through the foundation. The water outside of the building was about 2 feet all around. It felt somewhat like being in a fishbowl. We added sandbags in front of the inside glass doors, and in front of the elevator doors. Another call to Brett, to see if he could bring in a couple more sump pumps. Brian felt if we could keep the water moving back to the dock area, most of the mechanical could be saved. Brett arrived with the sump pumps. The water was about 8 inches deep and rising very quickly. The water came over our sandbags in the dock area and in a matter of minutes we had about 18 inches deep in the lobby. At about the same time, the train bridge collapsed creating a damming effect. The water was soon about three feet deep in the lobby and still rising. Although it was difficult for Brian, we realized that there was not anything else we could do. We walked out the skywalk and headed home. |
